February 2019 – National Conference of Jewish Affairs spokesman Rabbi Aryeh Spero has released the following statement:
“President Trump’s State of the Union Address will go down as one of the most historic, unifying, and visionary peacetime addresses to the nation. It was delivered with passion, precision, and expressed with heart, making us feel the country will be safe and will move forward under President Trump’s dynamic leadership.
“I have heard over a half-century’s worth of State of the Union speeches and tonight’s was exceptional in its comity, goodwill, and in its concluding soaring rhetoric linking our past with our future and our overriding destiny.
“Two things stood out: one was the President’s courage in boldly pointing out the immorality of those not agreeing to build a wall and the obliviousness of elites in not being shaken by the devastating consequences of illegal immigration to ordinary Americans. He stood up for the right of fully formed babies to not have their life snuffed out immediately prior to birth. And, as any American president should, he declared that socialism is ruinous and antithetical to the American dream and can never be allowed to be part of America’s system.
“No president has devoted more time to the scourge of anti-Semitism as did the President tonight when addressing survivors of the Holocaust, victims of the massacre at the Pittsburgh synagogue, and linking America’s history and identity with fighting anti-Semitism. The President did a masterful job because deep inside he believes in what he says and because he loves America and its people.”
